Silk Sonic, Kendrick Lamar & Jazmine Sullivan Among Winners At BET Awards

Jazmine Sullivan won the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist award and The Weeknd won the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist award at the BET Awards on Sunday, June 26.

This is the first win for The Weeknd in the category after being nominated six previous times.

Megan Thee Stallion and Kendrick Lamar were named best female and male hip-hop artist, respectively.

Silk Sonic, the R&B superduo composed of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, were adjudged Best Group.

They also took home the award for Album of the Year for their joint project An Evening With Silk Sonic.

Bad Boy Records founder and musical mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was this year’s recipient of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. While accepting the award, he pledged to donate $1 million to his alma mater Howard University.

At only 17, Marsai Martin was awarded the Youngstar Award.

The BET Awards, which celebrate Black excellence in music, culture and sports, were presented at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles Sunday. Taraji P. Henson hosted the event.
