Lizzo Drops ‘About Damn Time,’ Announces New Album ‘Special’

Lizzo recently released a new song, “About Damn Time,” her first single since the release of her “Rumors” collab with Cardi B last year.

The singer also announced that her fourth album, Special, will arrive on July 15 via Nice Life/Atlantic. A picture posted on the page provides a look at the album’s black-and-white cover art that features Lizzo in an armor-inspired headpiece.

In the “About Dame Time” video, directed by Christian Breslauer, Lizzo attends the Stressed and Sexy Support Group.

When she’s asked to recite a poem, she imagines herself moonwalking in a sparkly catsuit through the halls and playing the flute in a pool while surrounded by synchronized swimmers. Lizzo, who teased the song on Instagram a few days before its release, called it “the song of the summer.”

“‘About Damn Time’ can lead into so many conversations,” Lizzo said in a recent interview with Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe. “It’s about damn time I feel better, it’s about damn time we get out this pandemic. It’s about damn time we to get the first Black female Supreme Court Justice. There’s so many things. It’s about damn time we popped the champagne. It’s about damn time the tequila got here.”

Lizzo’s last album, Cuz I Love You, came out in 2019.
