HBO has shared a trailer for the upcoming documentary Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage, which is part of the network’s new Music Box documentary series.

The Woodstock ’99 documentary, directed by Garret Price and executive produced by Bill Simmons, is set to air on HBO on July 23 and stream on HBO Max. The documentary is about what happened at the ill-fated Woodstock 1999 edition, held at a remote Air Force Base in upstate New York.

The documentary chronicles the “three blazing hot days and nights of nonstop performances and heaving mosh pits in July 1999, and examines how the festival eventually collapsed under the weight of its own misguided ambition,” Warner Media said in a release.

It was a chaotic event with the crowd going berserk, tearing plywood off the walls and setting it on fire. There were reports of rape and sexual assault, as well as looting, vandalism, and arson.

The documentary will see organizers of the event Michael Lang and John Scher explaining what went wrong during the festival, and also feature interviews with Korn‘s Jonathan Davis, The Roots‘ Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, Jewel, Moby, Creed‘s Scott Strapp, and members of The Offspring.

Some well known culture critics and some of the festival attendees are also featured in the documentary.

“We got off the bus,” Moby says in the trailer. “And I thought: something’s not right.”

The teaser tracks the fest’s downhill plunge, as the heat rises, the water costs too much, and, “The Porta Pottys? Unusable,” one person says. “You had kids rolling around in what they thought was mud.”
